from 2014 to 2019, i was on trails. the san gabriel mountains, the angeles national forest, wherever there was a trailhead and a community showing up at six in the morning, i was there. women who hike. ryp hiking. socal hiker. 52 hike challenge. not just for the miles — for what the miles gave me.
i worked in hospitality. networking. service. always performing, always providing, always the one showing up as something for someone else. the trail was the only place where nobody needed me to be anything. the people i hiked with weren’t buyers. they were investors in something greater than any of us — in community, in stories, in the shared understanding that getting to the top of something hard is worth doing together.
the silence on a trail is somehow both completely quiet and completely loud with your own thoughts. o eres el problema o eres la solución — tú decides. by 2019 the trails turned into flights. this is where i go back and walk them again.
